A Brief History

I am recording thoughts and milestones from our infertility journey so that someday, we can look back on this time and be grateful to God that we successfully moved through it and past it.

Early in 2012, I bought a couple of books on Amazon about pregnancy. One of them, The Unofficial Guide to Having a Baby,  opened my eyes to the amount of time that it might take to conceive for my age. On my next doctor's visit, I explained to her that I was ready to go off of the pill and start trying. She said comforting words and wished me well and prescribed me prenatal vitamins.

We decided to try to have a baby starting in the spring of 2012. Around Memorial Day 2012, I was in the field, and of course started my first cycle off of birth control. No one wants to have a period in a less-than-ideal environment, but it seems like that is how it often works. Keith went to Fort Lewis for LDAC and was gone from late June to July, and after that we also went to see his parents in Illinois.

Sometime in the last year I discovered bbt charting. For anyone unfamiliar with this-you can chart your waking temperature daily (basal body temperature) in order to track temperature changes based on hormones that correlate with the menstrual cycle. Based on my charts, I ovulate normally and regularly. This has also been confirmed by blood tests.

A couple is officially considered infertile when they have been trying to conceive for one full year (if the woman is 35 or younger) without success. I believe that July makes it an official twelve months of trying.

May 30 I had a HSG done with normal results, and July 18 I had two ultrasounds to rule out PCOS. He has had a sperm analysis. Later this week we will find out results and possibly have more answers.
